Everyone has/had a wingback chair at some point and while their classic design is perfect for an everyday reading nook, they can look outdated quickly.
I scored this chair for $25 on kijiji.ca.
It was in excellent condition, very comfy and with it's fern green cover just needed a little TLC for a modern look.
I quickly learned from my ottoman DIY that re-upholstering is best left to the professionals so for this I got creative. Instead of ripping off the old cover that the previous owners had applied (clearly a DIY gone wrong also) I headed to Walmart and picked up a black damask wing chair cover in a soft, elegant velvet material.
To give a custom look to the chair, I added nailhead trim. The nailhead trim comes on a roll with every fifth nail being real. This way you only have to hammer every fifth nailhead saving time and energy and making it much easier to keep a straight line with the detail.
Real nail head that is hammered in
I added the nailhead trim to the edges of the chair and the arms. The trim is easy to cut when you're done and if I ever want a change I just remaove the nailhead trim, add a different cover!
Voila! All that is missing now is a cup of java and a good book!
The total cost:
$20 nailhead trim
